Questions

Questions before you text

How do I start?

Text three photos to the number in the header: the room from the doorway, the worst wall or ceiling, and the trim and door. Add the street and the floor.

Do you need to see the unit?

Often not. If the photos are enough we write the estimate from them. If not, we come to look and say so in the first reply.

What is in the written estimate?

Each room, the repairs, the coats, the products and sheens, the colors, the days on site, the payment schedule and the warranty terms.

What is not in the estimate?

Repairs found behind paint, extra colors, moving heavy furniture and masonry or carpentry. The estimate says so.

Can you paint while tenants are home?

Yes. We agree the rooms for each day in writing, cover floors and furniture and give you a notice for the tenants.

Is my building covered by the pre-1978 lead rule?

Many Chicago two-flats, three-flats and courtyard buildings were built before 1978. EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers paid work that disturbs paint in homes and child-occupied buildings built before 1978. Tell us the year when you text; our firm number is in the footer.

How many coats do you apply?

Usually a primer on patches and stains and two coats on walls and trim. A dark color going light can take more, and the estimate says.

Who buys the paint?

We do. The estimate names the product line and sheen for each surface. Ask for the product data sheet and we send it.

How long does a unit take?

A typical one- or two-bedroom flat takes about four working days. The estimate gives the days for your unit.

What about weather outside?

We paint outside when the wood is dry and the day is warm enough for the paint to cure. A rain day is moved, and you are told the evening before.

Do you protect floors and furniture?

Always. Floors, stairs and furniture are covered before a can is opened, and we vacuum, not sweep.

How do deposits and payment work?

The estimate sets a schedule, written before you sign. Often a deposit to hold the dates and the rest on finishing.

What does the warranty cover?

Peeling and blistering on surfaces we prepared and painted. Terms, limits and exclusions are in your written warranty.

Do you speak Spanish?

Pilar and Aura do, on the phone and in text. Some of the crew do too, and we tell you who before the first day.

Do you need a permit or an association's approval?

Interior and routine exterior repainting does not usually need a city permit. A condo building may need its board's approval, and we send the schedule and the product sheet for it.
